Holiday Spiritual Cleaning: Refuel for Yule by Hovik

Holiday Spiritual Cleaning: Refuel for Yule

With the witch’s new year behind us and the solstice approaching, it is time to consider some mundane maintenance. I always view the three harvest festivals Lammas, Mabon, and Samhain about cleaning things up on a spiritual and mundane level. It’s more to do with endings than anything else and for me the winter solstice and Yule is about rebirth and renewal of everything. It’s the welcoming of light in the darkest of times. Besides the wonderful celebrations and glorious food and company the holiday season brings, I work my Yule to be a time of making lists and programs to enter into the new calendar year. Here are some tips and tricks to refuel for Yule:

Decorations are a beautiful thing and they help set a mood. Around these times, we decorate with all our lavish wares and arts to adorn the space for the coming year. If you enter the year in luxury, then it surely will trickle down the whole of the year. I always make sure my home and space is full of rich colors, delicious smells, and of course plenty of happy company. One can work this magic to set yourself up for a fortuitous year.

Now for something a little more magical; Yule is the time when the Goddess is in labor with the God, the child of promise and light in the darkness. You can do a simple meditation to help usher in the same energy on a practical level for yourself. Envision yourself surrounded by darkness, the endless void of possibility. There is nothing to fear of nothingness as it holds infinite possibility. Within the darkness bring forth from your belly a star of light that carries with it a wish for the new year. This star represents your hopes for the new year; a promise that lightness and rebirth will come. Take the star and place it high above your head and wear it as a crown. You are the evergreen in the cold winter; your spirit continues to push forward in this time and with your light it shall give new hope and rebirth for the coming year. Just as we look to the Yule tree with its glorious star topper and become filled with joy and hope, embody that energy for yourself wearing the star of rebirth and heralding forth bounty in the coming year.

I always spend the season making lists and plans for myself to shape a better me in the new year. I renew commitments and goals to continue the forward momentum. As a chef and meal planner, I organize new diet plans for myself and clients to help them achieve new goals in the year. I also look at my year calendar and being to plan classes and events. I always want to carry the air of the new year along with me and help share that momentum with others in my work to help fuel them for the year. Everyone is bright eyed and excited for the new year and I take advantage of it by offering classes that enrich the mind and spirit to help others achieve their goals and feel accomplished. There is always that loss of energy after the first few months into the new year as the energy fades, but I always strive to push it forward and keep the light shining.
