Midsummer Ritual with Temple of Ced

This year at the Solar point of power, where we normally focus upon the Divine Crown of Spirit, we hear the call to celebrate the Queen of Heaven, Mother to the Crown of Spirit, specifically, Asherah, the silenced Mother Goddess of the Semitic religions. Though she has Canaanite origins, even most Pagans of today know little of her. Beyond her supremacy, her story is alas the story of all women within the Semitic, Christian, & Muslim religious dominated societies of the past thousand plus years.  Even today in the 21st century, women are being silenced, disempowered, disenfranchised, and disrespected. They are expected to be the invisible workhorse upon which the patriarchal society can build its abusive society!
Our Pagan men are not part of this patriarchy, and they do not endorse it in any way! Pagan men stand by the Goddess and all women as equals, as it should always have been. And as these Patriarchal men are trying to bring back their perverse values of time best left buried, we need to not be silenced but rather stand firm and clear with all women’s rights.
To that end, we take this opportunity, with the power of the Solstice, to turn our faces to the silenced and mostly forgotten Goddess Asherah. She was the Queen of Heaven, the Mother Goddess of the Semitic lines, who sat beside Baal, El, and Yahweh. She was represented by the Axis Mundi, the World Tree, often simplified as an Axis Pole, known as an Asherah Pole. But the patriarchal temples cut down her poles, destroyed her artifacts, and silenced her presence. Was she another name for the Tree that Odin hung on? Was she the Cross that the Venus Crown of Spirit was hung on? Held in our hearts when we didn’t even know it, she has tried to return, but the patriarchy finds ways to use her while silencing her identity.
She needs us as we need her, right now, to rise back to her proper place as Queen of Heaven!
The Temple of Ced is a British Traditional Witchcraft tradition as opposed to a coven based in Wiccan practices. As such, our sabbats are not based on agriculture or earth religion practice, so we tend to deviate a bit from what you may expect if you haven’t worked with us before. That said, we build our rituals with the intent of making them inclusive and accessible to our very diverse community at The Green Man and whatever paths they may be walking!
Please bring a dish to share for the potluck social gathering after the ritual. Out of respect to us, please abide by the law: people need to be over 21 to drink. Adults who are over 21 are asked to please be adult in their drinking approach and drink responsibly so we all get to have some fun.
We gather at 7:30 pm for an 8 pm Rite. To help defray costs to the store and to the presenters, we charge $15 for rituals. Space is limited!
