Spring Liberalia ritual with Raven’s Cry Grove

Salvete Citizens and guests! We gather to honor the gods of Ancient Rome who live with us and provide for us. Our ritual is not a re-creation of a Roman rite, rather it is an ADF Druid rite, for as was the way of Ancient Rome, rites of groups other than those of the city, Rome, are performed per their own customs.

Our inspiration is the Roman festival of Liberalia which was held in honor of Liber Pater, Liber the Father, a fertility god whose worship dated from near 500 B.C.. Liber Pater, along with his female equivalent and partner Libera and the earth goddess Ceres, shared a temple on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Liberalia, it is said, was celebrated with sacrifices, crude songs, processions, and liberties of all sorts.

In keeping with the description of the ancient Liberalia celebration, be aware that some elements of our ritual will be adult in nature.
