AN INTRODUCTION TO SHAMANISM
A 6-Week (In-Person) Workshop Series with Jerel
Thursday Nights @ 7:30pm
February 20 – March 27, 2025

Shamanism is an earth/ nature-based spiritual path found in many indigenous, as well as modern, traditions around the world. Throughout history the shaman was someone who, within their tribe or community, played many roles: healer, diviner, storyteller, counselor, priest, leader. As such, Shamans have been able to guide and heal their communities through their connection with spirits of the land, their skill in tracking problematic patterns and energies, and their ability to travel between the spirit realms. Presently, there has been a resurgence of interest for Shamanism, leading many people onto a path of healing and growth through reclaiming their lives on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

If you are new to Shamanism, or simply want to learn more about it, this series will help you cultivate an understanding of a Shamanic worldview. In this series we will explore and discuss the various commonalities amongst Shamanic traditions from around the world, and demonstrate simple ways in which you may incorporate Shamanic practices and skills into your own spiritual practices and everyday lives.

This will be a 6-Week In-Person Class Series, wherein each class will meet every Thursday night between February 20 to March 27, from 7:30pm – 10pm. Throughout the series, each class will delve into a fundamental topic within the study of Shamanism. Each class is presented as it’s own “stand-alone” workshop within a series of workshops centered around a central theme. In this case, “An Introduction to Shamanism” is a course about Spirit Work – how we may connect to the spirit guides and allies all around us. Needless to say, the option of “dropping in” at any point in the series is openly encouraged, especially if there are isolated topics, practices and techniques you are specifically focused on learning. However, all of the class topics in the series are quite supportive for a foundational study in shamanic practice, and I highly recommended everyone to attend all classes in the series.

Workshop Topics:

2/20: Class 1 – Shamanism & The Web of Life
What is Shamanism? What is a shaman? In this introductory class will discuss questions like these, as well as explore general themes, perspectives, and concepts within a shamanic practice. In this workshop, we will also present a few practical techniques in staying grounded, expanding vision, and cultivating our work with spirit, as we learn to connect with “The Web of Life.”

2/27: Class 2 – Shamanic Journeying Workshop
Shamanic Journeying is a powerful practice which involves entering an altered state of consciousness to connect and interact with the spirit realms for insight, guidance and healing. We will discuss the various ways this can be practiced and achieved, as well as what to expect, and how to translate and interpret the visions, messages and “medicines” we receive, as we learn to journey into the non-ordinary realms.

3/6: Class 3 – Spirit Work with Plant Allies
Every shamanic culture around the world has a practice around working with plants as spirit allies. Unlike other spirits we may come across, we have a special relationship to plants in the ways we may physically, as well as spiritually, interact with them. In this workshop we will explore different techniques and perspectives in which we may connect with these subtle spirits and their powerful medicines.

3/13: Class 4 – Power Animals, Totems and Spirit Guides
Throughout history every culture around the world has had a unique connection to animals as archetypal symbols of wisdom, power, healing, and character. When we observe these spirits in nature, or interact with them in the non-ordinary realm, we find invaluable opportunities to take in their guidance, allyship and medicine in ways which help us to expand our awareness and personal evolution. In this workshop, learn how to discover and connect to the animal guides and totems who walk by your side.

3/20: Class 5 – Navigating The Medicine Wheel
The concept of the medicine wheel is more than a symbol of wisdom, it is also the key to practical systems of ancient medicines, which can elevate one’s vision and connection to time, nature, community, and the land. In this workshop, we will learn how to identify and organize the principles and archetypes within our own inner compasses, to frame a better understanding of our cosmological perspectives, while connecting to the spirits of the land.

3/27: Class 6 – Shamanic Pathworking & Integration
The shamanic path is often perceived a special calling. Yes, it is and can be, but in truth, it is also a choice, a stewardship, a story. Spirit Work is more than just learning to connect with spirits around and within you, it is also about applying and integrating the many lessons and wisdoms you encounter along the way. In this workshop, we will explore ways we may shift our spirit, carry our stories, and deepen our relationship to the most important spirit we will ever know – our own!
