On Being an Empath: Curse or Superpower? Class with Joe Futerman

As both a teacher and therapist I have often heard people talk about being an Empath and how it controls their lives and causes them to feel out of control or at the mercy of others’ emotions.  Further, when I explore this experience with them they often have only two possibilities:  to have their gift on and be out of control, or to turn it off and feel themselves blinded.  In short, those gifted with the ability of being Empaths often see it not as gift but as a curse.  That is the waste of a super-power, if you ask me.  Being an Empath should give you an advantage in most human transactions and make you more, rather than less, capable in all of your relationships.   However, to do that you must have control over your gift.

In this course we will examine the nature of the gift of being an Empath and how that it is different from being a Sympath.  We examine the uses of the this gift and explore how having this ability can enhance your life.  Finally, we will introduce practices to gain control over your gift.   So whether you are an Empath who has felt out of control or you are not sure whether you are an Empath, or if you have an Empath in your life, or if you want simply to understand more about this particular gift, join us to learn more about the use and control of the gift of being an Empath.

Joe is a father, a college professor, and a writer. He has a doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis in the work of Carl Jung, and is a licensed psychotherapist with a practice in the Pasadena area. He is also a certified hypnotist, NLP practitioner and Reiki level 2. Last but not least, Joe is a magickian who has explored and practiced the path of magick for 35 years.

Joe began his studies as a solitary practitioner of Ceremonial Magick. He eventually became a member of three different Golden Dawn Orders, completing his work in the outer order in 2003. Since then, he has continued to study and teach on a broad range of magickal topics and has been a founding member of four magickal/pagan groups: the Kaotic Order of Adventurers Seekers and Sorcerers, The Fellowship of the Gods, The Magus Project, and The Association of Pagan Therapists. He has also studied Qabbalah, Witchcraft, Hoodoo, Thelema, Enochian, Obeah, and Chaos Magic.
