Oghams are a Ancient Brythonic alphabet system, dating from around the 4th century AD. Different from Runes but comparable as a magical alphabet system, and one that holds a rich Legacy! The Oghmic Alphabet is written as strokes upon a base line, perfect for marking both stone and wood. Legacy of the old Irish, Welsh & Pictish people can be accessed through ancestral memory supported by this alphabetic system.
Each glyph represents a sound, but like the Runes, each glyph was also associated with societal & cosmological keys. These keys were designed to bring insights to the nature of sounds & their correspondence to specific spirit qualities or concepts, which comprise the spiritual & magical Legacy of the peoples of Old Albion.

The Oghams were hung upon specific tribes of Magical Trees, and to a lesser degree Birds. The opportunities for talismanic magic using such an alphabet is not to underestimated. The specific form of Oghams to be presented in this Series is that which we use in our Ced Tradition, and which has been incorporated into the Ced Tarot. Oghams typically come in two basic versions, BLN or BLF, which makes a nod to the sequence within the first five oghams. The numeric significance of this is important, and will be covered. We will make a point of covering the traditional Oghams as we have inherited them. We will however include the additional five oghams that are specific to the Ced Tradition Cosmology.

In this Series, we will present the spirit associations with each Ogham, as well as interpretations of associated qualities, which make this system usable in a magical context. We will also address how to incorporate these Magical Trees into a Lunar Calendar system, perfect for Moon workings!

The Ced Tradition is a practice of British Traditional Witchcraft, not Wicca. Our ways of Magic are rooted in the Gifts of old ways as practiced by the Cunning folk of Europe. Working with Spirits is central to our practice, and this series will pull from decades of experience of hands on work with these powerful & magical spirits. Be clear that this is a system of traditional British Magical woods; we will not be covering Trees outside of this specific origin. Those who know Carrie and Griffin know that the classes will be fun and informative.
