I get flooded with questions on a regular basis because of working at a metaphysical store. Ranging anywhere from “what is that?” to “I have an attachment, how do I get rid of it?” and my favorite, “do you have any dead animals for sale?” I thought I would take the time to answer some common questions on a larger platform rather than individually. I feel sometimes sharing knowledge helps those who don’t know to ask or they have so many questions, they don’t know where to begin. Each week, I am going to tackle a couple questions and allow people to get the answers they seek without feeling pressured. This weeks question is from Michelle M who asks:
What is the main cause of a spell not working?
There are a number reasons why a spell did not work, and I will address each reason here. The first way in which a spell did not work is because you did not do the spell correctly. The second way is the person casting the spell had not-so-virtuous intentions. The third reason a spell did not work is simply because it was not meant to be. Often times magic is seen as a way to avoid work and to make things magically happen for you. I believe that magic is a way to clear up pathways to allow for your intentions to be heard and made more manifest clearly. The spellcaster still needs to put in some actual work on a mundane level in order to see the full benefits. A simple analogy to help bring it into perspective is fishing; you cast out your line and wait for a bite. Once you snag the fish, you still have to work and reel it in otherwise it’ll take your bait and swim away. If all you do is cast out your line with bait and never work to reel anything in then eventually you will lose faith in yourself and give up.
Now let’s look at reasons why your spell didn’t work. Let’s look at maybe you didn’t do the spell correctly.
New students and customers ask all the time about writing or making their own spells and if they will be effective or if they need a spell book. My advice to a beginner is to work spells from tried and true sources. The reason for it being that those authors have done the work and found a spell that works for them. Eight times out of ten, the same spell will work for another individual as well. With that, I also say that if you find a spell you want to try and it doesn’t make sense to you, it’s totally fine to ask someone for some guidance on changing it. Premade or prewritten spells are a great place to start and help you build confidence in yourself and magic. Remember that if you decide to do a spell written by someone else to follow it exactly to make sure you have the same result. That person has found that combination to work and to trust it will help the magic.
Maybe the reason your spell didn’t work is because your intentions were a bit muddled.
Depending on your own morals and ethics, some spells will work, and others will not. If you have been brought up with the idea that money should be earned not given, then you may find difficulty in a prosperity or good fortune spell. Not to say it won’t happen, but you may find yourself working for your money more often than having it fall into your lap. Also, if your intentions are muddled in the sense that you really shouldn’t be doing work towards something then it will affect the outcome. Also, it’s really important to remain clear on your intentions. If your intentions are all over the place and not focused then the spell or energy you put out is set on a course of twists and turns and that will lead to it failing simply because it was too convoluted.
Sometimes it’s just not meant to be….
We all wish we could win the lotto, find our soulmate, and live happily for the rest of our lives, but life and fortune aren’t always in our favor. Often times we try to push our plans forward without looking at the broader picture. I always recommend doing a reading on your situation and looking at some outcomes and making a decision that way. If you fixate on one thing because you feel it’s the right choice, it may lead to your path being hindered. Maybe you aren’t meant to win the lottery, but instead land a very successful job that leads to a very comfortable financial situation. I feel it is better to focus your intentions where the spell needs it rather than where you want it. Another thought I always keep in mind that I picked up from a co worker and practitioner of the craft is that “Magic always works and you will get an answer.” Basically keep in mind that not getting the answer you expected didn’t mean the spell didn’t work. It simply means the answer was different than what you had in mind.
