A Vision Quest to Baphomet!

This month I sat and wrestled with the tides, threw the cards, and received a reading that spoke to an upcoming energetic tide addressing our need to take stock of reality with regards to certain relationships in our life, in the work place, the family, and elsewhere in general, perhaps even as a tribe or a country where the rift of division grows. In some of our relationships there are perhaps some issues that have been put on hold. While not knowing how to move forward, we allow ourselves to look the other way and hope time will settle things for us. As a rule this approach is not necessarily a bad one when things are complex and the solutions either radical or elusive.

I looked for further clarity as to what was going on and found that on the 17^th, the very day of our upcoming Vision Quest, Saturn Squares Neptune. It’s a T Square also involving Mercury. But the Neptune Saturn Square is a real collision of realities, of a sort. Neptune–the timeless drifting dreamer on the cosmic seas–brings the mysterious qualities in life, a potent element within the lives of seekers such as ourselves…though it also brings the potential for illusion, which in the hands of witchery can be a quality for both good and bad. Saturn on the other hand is the primary quality of definition in the cosmos. Hard and fast reality, fixed and set by boundaries of limitation. Saturn is the bringer of hard and cold reality, while Neptune is the dreamer without bounds. These two squaring off has in the past given us some shake-ups and wake up calls!

From what I read, the general sense of the square is indeed a wake up call, and a need to address the dreams and illusions and get real! Time to adult, if you like. But to a Witch, this is not as simple a call, as our reality is to walk in two worlds and to be true to our spirit. We can not, we must not choose between these two powerful forces, but rather find a way to unite their contradictory natures to serve our crooked path. Our way of being is to belong to two worlds and function in them both, and so we need to turn this stance towards the issues and relationships in our lives and find a solution that works for who we are. But how best to approach a Vision Quest to find the solution?

Well this year the Vision Quests have been taking a slightly different track. It started with a Quest to Hecate’s Torches, and then last month we encountered Sekhmet. These were not random meet and greets, but rather timely encounters pertaining to the current tides and issues that seem to be emerging with those tides.

And so when I looked to how to find the Witch’s Key to reconciling these opposite and opposing forces, what sprang immediately to mind is…we need Baphomet! And so, armed with specific needs, we make a venture to encounter and find Gnostic Insight through an encounter with one of the lesser-known or encountered Witch Gods of the Old World.

For anyone seeking a Baphomet experience more in line with Satanism or the classic Hollywood representation of this God, this is not the experience you are looking for. We do not work with Baphomet in that framework whatsoever! So Satanists and thrill seekers will be disappointed. We approach Baphomet as a Witch God who holds the Key to Heretical Gnosis through the Hieros Gamos, or Great Marriage of Spirit and Matter. And considering our needs this time around, He/She is the perfect God to seek out!
