SUMMARY:Traditional Spiritwork 101 with Ren
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays March 31\, 2016 – May 5\, 2016\n*In the 5th week\, class will be Wednesday evening the 27th\, instead of Thursday the 28th – to make room for our very special guest Sharon Knight who will be presenting her Well of Song workshop while in town for her performance at our annual Beltane Festival. \nClass runs 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm PST\nin Los Angeles\, CA at The Green Man\ncall 818-985-2010 to reserve your space. \nPrice of $120 may be paid in two equal installments of $60 at the first and fourth meeting.\nPrice includes downloadable audio-recordings of class and access to an online discussion forum including Q&A with Ren.\nMore about Ren Zatopek \n+What is Traditional Spiritwork? \nTraditional Spiritwork begins with conversations.  The stars are singing.  The memories in your blood are whispering.  Can you hear them?  The spiritworker learns the language of the dead\, of trees\, of the heart.  Through these diverse relationships our worldview evolves and our understanding deepens\, just like the expansion we experience if we have the opportunity to visit another country or learn a foreign language. \nSometimes the conversations lead us to other sacred arts: like the rituals\, shrine-keeping\, prayers\, visionary work\, and folk-practices of our ancestors.  We will discuss these arts\, but to me\, Traditional doesn’t mean going through the same motions as those who came before.  Our animist ancestors didn’t look up which color candle to use on the internet.  They found their own Way.  They worked with what they had\, they talked with what they found\, they saw spirit in everything.  The Tradition is heretical\, it is the way of finding your own way. \n  \n+Why practice Traditional Spiritwork? \nThere was a time when people mostly asked me: “Ren\, can you tell me what my spirit guides are saying? Can you see them?”  Now\, it seems every week I hear: “Ren\, how do I learn to hear my spirit guides?  How can I see them more clearly?” \nAny shift towards personal responsibility and adventure is great!  But remember that spiritual Sight is the vehicle for your travel\, not the journey itself.  Traditional Spiritwork is not just about perceiving spirits\, it’s about communicating\, collaborating\, and creating a meaningful life with them.  If it isn’t meaningful\, the spirits\, too\, might get bored and wonder: “Why Humanwork?” \nThe only way to have a friend is to be one. +Ralph w. Emerson \nPractice Traditional Spiritwork to cultivate a life of Freedom and Family.  Imagine a kind of love that pushes you forward instead of holding you back.  Spiritwork is the serpent constantly hatching from ever-larger eggs.  Spiritwork is a tool that can work within any system\, religion\, belief\, or box that you enjoy\, even atheism\, so long as that box isn’t brittle — in which case\, fair warning\, spiritwork may crack a few of your favorite eggs. \n  \n+Traditionally\, isn’t Spiritwork learned from the Spirits out alone in the forest or something? Why take a class? \nYes\, spiritwork is learned from the spirits and it is as individual as a fingerprint.  (I’m a spirit though\, and so are you!)  However\, the states of being which allow spiritwork to take root are not easy for everyone to access.  Animism and the animist world-view is no longer the dominant paradigm in our society. \nWe become caught wanting to see through those animist eyes\, while fearing the madness that might come if we really start seeing faces and hearing voices in everything.  We become blocked\, not by inability to perceive spirit\, but by our fear that spirit isn’t “real”\, such that what we perceive is never good enough.  The vision is never strong enough to eradicate our fear.  The comfort of confirmation never lasts. \nIn this class\, we will learn that Comfort is not the goal of Spiritwork.  Neither is suffering.  We will learn that stronger contact is not clearer contact.  We will learn a healthier way of relating to our fears.  We will develop dexterity in our spiritual senses.  We will embrace Growth and Adventure\, and yes\, meet some of our nearest and dearest friends: Souls\, Spirits\, Ancestors\, Plants\, Animals\, Minerals\, Faery\, Gods\, Titans\, Innerworlds\, Otherworlds\, and more. \n++Subscribers to my mailing list will get a sneak-preview full course outline in the middle of March. Sign-up here:\nhttp://eepurl.com/bLFa6f \n++Persons who take this series will receive a coupon code and early access to this course when it launches through my online classroom later this year. There will be both free and paid courses coming\, but enrolling in the classroom is free\, so sign-up now so that you don’t miss out on any opportunities to beta test\, get early adopter coupons\, or other sneak-previews. SUMMARY:Traditional Spiritwork 101 with Ren** Meets Wednesday this Week Only
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays March 31\, 2016 – May 5\, 2016\n*In the 5th week\, class will be Wednesday evening the 27th\, instead of Thursday the 28th – to make room for our very special guest Sharon Knight who will be presenting her Well of Song workshop while in town for her performance at our annual Beltane Festival. \nClass runs 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm PST\nin Los Angeles\, CA at The Green Man\ncall 818-985-2010 to reserve your space. \nPrice of $120 may be paid in two equal installments of $60 at the first and fourth meeting.\nPrice includes downloadable audio-recordings of class and access to an online discussion forum including Q&A with Ren.\nMore about Ren Zatopek \nThe only way to have a friend is to be one. +Ralph w. Emerson \nTraditional Spiritwork begins with conversations. To me\, Traditional doesn’t mean going through the same motions as those who came before. Our animist ancestors didn’t have the internet to look up which color candle to use. They found their own Way. They worked with what they had\, they talked with what they found\, they saw spirit in everything. The Tradition is heretical\, it is the way of finding your own way. \nI love how many folks have changed their question from\, “Ren\, can you tell me what my spirit guides are saying?” to “Ren\, how do I learn to hear my spirit guides?” Love. But Spirit-Listening is a half-step. Traditional Spiritwork is not simply knowledge of guides\, it’s self-knowledge. We\, who are also spirits\, who are capable not only of perceiving\, but of communicating and creating with our invisible friends. As the quote says\, the only way to have a friend is to be one. \nMany modern seekers that I meet are conflicted. They reach for stronger spiritual contact from their guides\, but may become overwhelmed as their sensitivity increases — we can become caught simultaneously drawing in and pushing away spiritual experience. We become caught wanting to see through those animist eyes\, while fearing the madness that might come if we really start seeing faces and hearing voices in everything. We become blocked not by inability to perceive spirit\, but by our fear that spirit isn’t “real”\, such that what we perceive is never good enough. The vision is never strong enough to eradicate our fear. The comfort of confirmation never lasts. \nIn this class\, we will learn that stronger contact is not clearer contact. We will learn a healthier way of relating to our fears. We will develop dexterity in our spiritual senses and yes\, meet some of our nearest and dearest friends. We’ll start the journey of learning the language of soul\, of spirit\, of ancestors\, of plants\, animals\, minerals\, of threshold beings like faery\, like Death\, of Bright Gods and Titans\, of innerworlds and otherworlds. \nSpiritwork is the serpent constantly hatching from an ever-larger egg. Spiritwork is a tool that can work within any system\, religion\, belief or box that you enjoy\, so long as that box isn’t brittle — in which case\, fair warning\, spiritwork may crack a few of your favorite eggs. \n\nImage Credit: Ren Zatopek + Shika Fawn + Nara\, Japan

SUMMARY:The Art of Formulating and Making Tea with Julie
DESCRIPTION:A strong cup of tea is herbal medicine at its most basic level. Well\, no it isn’t really; chewing on a raw leaf is the MOST basic form\, but a cup of tea is right up there. Many people prefer herbal medicine in the form of a tincture\, pill or extract\, with the thought that they are more potent forms\, and while it is true that certain constituents in plants are more readily soluble in alcohol\, it is just as true that as many constituents are more readily soluble in water\, making tinctures of those medicines rather ineffective. \nCases in point? Astragalus. Kelp. Marshmallow. Slippery Elm. Nettle. And a host of others–often the nourishing\, tonic\, strengthening herbs are best used in this form. But it can be a bit daunting making a cup of tea from loose herbs\, and especially scary blending herbs together to make customized blends. What if you get it wrong? Well\, there are few wrongs\, but there are certainly optimal\, or at least better\, ways of formulating tea blends and making infusions and decoctions. And as long as you keep a few basic rules in mind\, and have some equally basic tools on hand\, you can make exceptionally good medicine in tea form. In this class\, you’ll learn how to blend herbs to make specific formulas to treat imbalances\, boost health\, and give pleasure. You’ll learn when to boil the heck out of plant to extract the most nutrients\, and when cool water is more effective–the difference can be astounding\, as you’ll see. \nWant a tea blend to detoxify your liver? Well stay away from Milk Thistle tea–it’s a waste of your money\, and a waste of good Milk Thistle. You can make teas that will be far better for your liver–and other organ systems at the same time. Want to build your bone strength? A good tea (and a yummy one\, too) can be one of your best tools–often better than a calcium supplement. Want to stop taking your Prilosec? A simple\, tasty tea can reduce or completely eliminate the need for acid blockers and antacids–and improve your digestion at the same time. Get the idea? Come learn more about teas\, and become better friends with plant medicine in its basic form–not as a pill\, but a warm\, soothing\, nourishing cup of herbal tea.
