We have through this practice met up with familiar spirits\, deity spirits\, and the spirits of varying forms of witchcraft. In this month’s quest we will be meeting up with a specific ancestral spirit – the Brythonic Iceni Queen\, Boudica. \nBoudica’s name has been translated from several languages to mean “victorious.” It is unknown if this is a title she carried\, or if it was her given name. Partially because of this\, her popularity found a resurgence during Queen Victoria’s reign\, and a statue depicting her in a chariot of victory was raised in her honor and set on the Westminster Bridge in London. \nBoudica lead a rebellion against Roman rule in AD 60 – 61. This came about as the invading Romans could not\, would not recognize her sovereignty because she was a woman. She united many of the tribes in Britain and fought the Romans and the Romanized British tribes alike. The Romans described her as a strong & terrifying warrior with a harsh voice that was often given to rallying speeches before battle. After winning several battles\, she eventually lost the war. Roman recorded history indicates she poisoned herself rather than be taken by their troops. \nAs an ancestor spirit\, Boudica makes manifest in us the spirit of tribal unity\, the strength of many tribes uniting and standing together to defy unjust rule. Father of the Gods\, Father of Winter\, Father of Yuletide\, and even Father of the Afterlife…yes all this and much more.  However\, in the public he is seldom spoken of as the Father of Witchery.  Known in some places as the Wanderer Old Nick\, he is also undeniably a major Witch God!\n\nAs a sidekick to old Santa who has become popular in recent years\, Krampus the black Goat figure was probably originally associated with Thor.  Although the Yule Goat has since become associated with Odin in his Father Yule persona.
