Herbal First Aid w/Julie James

This is some of my favorite work with herbs: replacing the usual suspects in the first aid kit with products that are quite powerful (often more so than the standard fare), that you have made with care and love and intent, and that can be used in multiple ways, reducing the number of total products that you need to carry.

And, and this is the big one, they work SO well. Herbal antibacterial salves, antifungal washes, wound healing treatments, it’s all so very good. OK, so no legal herbal pain relief can top 800 mg. of ibuprofen, but herbal pain relief wont destroy numerous organs, either, so there.

You’ll go home with some great samples, and lots of recipes to get you started making your own herbal first aid kit. It’s simpler than you think, and it’s fun.

Simple. Fun. Effective. Boy, do I love this stuff.

Basics of British Traditional Craft with Griffin ap Ced

In response to great demand…. This Saturday, Feb 18th, at the Green Man, I will be presenting a Traditional Craft 101 introduction for all those folks wanting to get to grips with the basics of Traditional Craft and how it differs from Wicca. I’ll be offering an over view from tools of the Craft, to working space constructions, cosmologies, spellworkings, Gods of the Craft and many other areas of beliefs and practices. This is an orientation in the diversity found within what today is often identified as non Wiccan based Traditional Witchcraft. This class will offer a different way to look at many Craft related subjects and so may even lend those experienced in the Craft with new insights. Also the class will incorporate a frank and open discussion on whatever folks want to get into, so this class, though scheduled to run from 3pm to 5pm, may run over.

Like heat and light, sound is a form of energy: a form of energy that we can generate in

Most of us learned early about the power of song to transport us to a time and place long since visited, or to draw instantly to the surface emotional responses we thought we
had well put away…so it probably will not surprise you to learn that sacred song is one of the few cultural universals that exist.  It has been used in ritual by every people known to us, not only to celebrate life and honor the gods, but to create conscious alignment within the tribe, and to concentrate and transmute energy and sanctify space for magickal working.

There’s no one that I know who wouldn’t like to have a better memory, better focus, greater concentration, and a more alert mind. Nutritional deficiencies, stress, environmental factors, diet, and many other issues all contribute to a brain that works on a sub-par level. In addition, the incidence of ADD/ADHD is increasing dramatically, in both children and adults, and we see an increase in age-related memory disorders, as well.

Thankfully, there are quite a number of herbs, nutrients, and foods that can contribute to reversing this trend, with both rapid and cumulative effects. These compounds can be invaluable when you just feel like your brain is wrapped in wet wool, and when you have forgotten, for the umpteenth time, where exactly you parked your car.

We’ll discuss herbs, certainly, and nutrients, but we’ll also look at lifestyle issues that are contributing factors, and we’ll construct an optimal diet to support a healthy brain through your elder years.

LUPERCALIA

The Circle of the Sacred Flame presents its February public ritual in celebration of the Lupercalia.

Lupercalia is a Roman ritual of purification and fertility dating from such an ancient time that even the Romans of the first century B.C.E. had forgotten its origin and to which Gods it was dedicated and even the meaning of some of its symbolism.  Some believe it was to honor Faunus , in his appellation of Faunus Lupercus, and the more ancient Goddess Rumina, the She-Wolf of Rome.  Central to the ritual is the lustration (light flogging) with a goat skin scourge. This was often accompanied by much rowdiness and horse-play. The purpose was the purification of the people from curses, bad luck and infertility. Traditionally performed on the Ides of February, the name of the month coming from the februa, meaning anything used in purifying including wool (used for cleaning), brooms, pine boughs (which make the air sweet and pure), etc.

Our ritual will carry on this tradition, in a very non-traditional Wiccan celebration where just about anything might happen. And afterward, as always, there’s time to share in the potluck meal with friends old and new.
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2012.
Time: start at 7:30 pm arrival, Ritual starts at 8pm SHARP

Please Bring: A ritual donation of $10 (no one will be turned away for lack of funds), a chalice, goblet or drinking cup; a potluck dish to share and your preferred beverage.
