We are often asked “How do I choose a reader?” Here are some points to remember.
1. Not every reader is for everyone. We had a wildly popular reader here and I figured she’d be able to hook into my vibe easily, as we had lots of personal background things in common. But nope. Zip. No connection whatsoever. Another reader who was *nothing* like me nailed the name of one of my patron deities (not a really well-known one) just two weeks after *I* realized who it was. So you never know. Be open to being surprised! On regular days (Not during the Psychic Faires), if you don’t feel any connection during the first five minutes, say something and we can put you with a different reader. The readers know that they might not connect with everyone. You won’t hurt their feelings, so speak up. (After five minutes, no changes or refunds will be made.)
2. Every reader sees through her/his own filters. A very talented reader asked me if I was well, as she saw gray around me while I was spinning during class. What she actually saw was silver, my Patroness deity’s color, but to her it looked gray and she thought I was getting sick. I appreciated the concern, however, and I thought it was very cool that she saw my Mother spinning with me. (Another seer at that class said she saw my Patroness’s spirit arms around me and her hands on mine as I was spinning. It’s always nice to get confirmation.)
3. What a reader says is what she/he is seeing (again, through filters) as a tendency/possibility/potential if nothing else changes. So nothing someone says is written in stone or to be taken as absolute unchangeable truth. See if what the reader says resonates with you. Take notes, maybe, and look back at them in three to six months and see if things make sense or have happened.
4. If you have a specific question or an area of life you’re interested in hearing about (spiritual path, job issues, love, etc.) ask the reader. Don’t just assume that the reader will know what you want to look into. Readers are intuitive and psychic, but not mind readers. 😉 It could be the cards and/or the spirits have something else in mind that they think you should be looking at, and if you go for a general reading, that’s what will come up. A general reading is completely legit, but it may not answer your questions if you don’t bring them up.
5. Even if you have a specific question, a reader may not be able to answer it. If readers were able to tell you EXACTLY what date something was going to happen, or tell you DEFINITIVELY that the man/job/car of your dreams will absolutely appear within the next year (etc., etc., etc.), the readers would be picking winning Lotto numbers for themselves and not working. 😉 This is true for mediums as well (those who speak with the spirits of the dead). Spirits often speak in metaphors and use symbols. Don’t expect a medium to always see your grandma exactly the way you remember her. Grandma might decide to show herself to the medium as a younger person–because she can. When a reader, medium, or healer does mention something that is true tor you, it’s good to give confirmation. That way the reader/medium/healer knows she/he is on the right track. Don’t sit there silently with your arms crossed, giving no feedback, and then accuse the reader of being way off base. No one has a good time that way. Then again, arguing with the reader doesn’t help much either; the cards say what they say (through the filters of the reader, of course)–but saying “That can’t be right” sixteen times will not make the cards or spirits miraculously say (for instance) yes, he will leave his current girlfriend and come back to you.
6. “Who do you recommend? Who’s your best reader?” We can’t recommend one reader or healer over another as it would be unfair. Click here, and see whose profile “speaks” to you. Or you can look in one of our notebooks at the store when you’re there. A great way to “sample” readers in shorter readings at reduced prices is to come to our Psychic & Metaphysical Healing Faires. For less than the price of a regular 15 minute reading, you can try three readers at the Faire! We usually hold Faires three times a year.

That said, we feel that the readers at The Green Man are talented and ethical, and are worth listening to. 😉
