A Reiki Experience at The Green Man with Jayson Rivest

A Reiki Experience at The Green Man with Jayson Rivest

a blog post by Krystal Rains

Have you heard of Reiki Attunements and wondered what someone was talking about? In January, I attended a Psychic and Metaphysical Healing Faire at The Green Man in North Hollywood. During my visit, I saw Jayson Rivest, a Reiki Master, who had been highly recommended.

During the visit, I had the opportunity to share a specific issue with him, but I chose to allow him to ‘scan’ and I was not surprised when he focused on my right shoulder. This has been a problem for approximately 4 years, since a car accident which totaled my car. The session is conducted in a quiet room, with soothing music, lying on a massage table, fully clothed.  During the ‘faire’ event, I spent 20 minutes with Jayson, but a standard session is usually 60 minutes. I felt very relaxed and calm, and at certain points, the air seemed to vibrate with energy.

The calm relaxed feeling lasted for several days. The range of motion with my shoulder, without pain, was improved more than any of my physical therapy sessions, but I also know I have not been good about keeping up with those exercises. After the session, it felt good to think about doing the strength exercises to improve my condition. That change of mindset has been one of the most amazing things I brought away from the session.

I asked Jayson a few questions about his path to Reiki work and thought I would share them with you.

1. How long have you been doing Reiki work? And then how long teaching?

While I have been doing energy work since the late 80s, I received my Reiki I/II attunements in February 2000 in San Francisco at a regional pagan conference known as PantheaCon. I was instantly blown away by the power and simplicity of the system and spent the rest of the year working on anyone that would stand still long enough (with their permission of course). After that transformative year, I knew that it was the path for me, and I went on to receive my Tibetan-Usui Reiki Master attunement in June 2001. I immediately started sharing what I had learned by teaching/attuning several close friends. Continuing my Reiki journey, in June 2002, I became a master in Karuna® Reiki, which was developed by the International Center for Reiki Training as a sort of ‘next step’ for Usui or Tibetan-Usui Reiki Masters. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life as the actual attunement took place inside Stonehenge. Now I share Reiki with as many people as I can through private sessions, healing circles, and classes.

2. What inspired you to learn to do this yourself?

From as early as I can remember, I have always had this knowing that my purpose in this lifetime is to be a Healer. I guess you might call it a vocation. Since I was a teenager, I have been learning and acquiring as many Healing tools as I can. When I went to PantheaCon in 2000, I saw a listing for ‘Intro to Reiki’, and I felt a pull in that direction. Over the years, I have learned to trust my intuition. That trust was well placed because the class literally changed my life.

3. Why did you choose this form of Reiki training?

Becoming a Reiki practitioner for me was more of a matter of being guided by spirit to that first Reiki class than it was a question of conscious choosing. That being said, I would have chosen this system of healing anyway because it is so simple, powerful, and fast. Other systems of energy work that I have learned require a fair amount of ritual, but with Reiki, it’s just ‘hands on, Reiki on’. That simplicity allows me to be instantly ready to help others in need which has come in handy many situations.

4. What is the one reason you would encourage others to take training? (I know there are more, but just choose one.)

That’s difficult because people can benefit from it in so many ways. I deeply believe that everyone has the right to live and the power to create a vibrant and fulfilling life. Teaching this class allows me to help them see and claim their own power; giving them the confidence, knowledge, and skills to create the life they want. In one weekend, they can positively change their lives forever.

Jayson will be teaching a weekend course on Reiki Attunement I/II at The Green Man on March 23-24, 2013. I am considering the training, but even more, I am looking forward to a future visit with Jayson and finding that calm relaxed feeling and keeping it around a bit longer. Jayson is available at The Green Man the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month from 11am to 3:30pm for 60-minute Reiki sessions. Please call the store to schedule an appointment.
